Islington Today is an independent news and information site for the London Borough of Islington. We work from public records, we link to every one, and we are not connected to the council or to anybody we report on.
Where we cover
The whole borough, which is unusual in that the council’s name is also the name people use: Islington and Angel, Barnsbury, Canonbury, Highbury, Holloway, Tufnell Park, Archway, Finsbury Park, Pentonville and Clerkenwell. It is one of the smallest boroughs in London by area and one of the most densely built, with a large social-housing population living directly alongside some of the most expensive streets in north London. Both of those are our patch.
What we report
Planning and licensing carry most of the weight here, because in a borough this tightly packed they decide what a street is like to live on. Alongside them we work from Islington Council’s committee papers and decisions, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, and company filings in The Gazette. We also keep reference pages on controlled parking zones and permits, bins and council tax bands, checked against the council’s own published information.
Our rules
Every fact is tied to a named source and linked. Where a record is ambiguous we say so rather than smoothing it over. We write in plain British English, we do not run press releases as reporting, and we do not republish other outlets’ photographs.
Corrections and tips
We would rather be accurate than first. Email hello@islingtontoday.co.uk if we have got something wrong and we will put it right and note the correction on the page. The same address takes tips and events, and anything you send is treated in confidence.
